Placing copper spacers in electronic components
Many industries, especially power plants, locomotive and electric car manufacturers need power modules. In the manufacturing process of these power modules, copper spacers are used as thermal conductors to dissipate the heat of the electronic components.
In order to provide heat transfer between the components and the cooler by placing spacers of different sizes and thicknesses on the electronic components, a system that would simultaneously feed the spacers to the robot, which would place a spacer on the component every 2 seconds, was required.
Infotech has developed an assembly machine for power modules using the IP 620 Cartesian robot and three Asycubes 80s from Asyril.
In order to reduce cycle time while the inspection camera in the system ensures the precise positioning of the spacers on the components, six holders are used that hold the spacers separated by three Asycubes.
Using standardized products like the Asycube has helped Infotech to offer automotive customers a system that has the flexibility of a custom machine for the cost of a standard machine.
Over molding of O-Rings on flat gaskets
“Machine tending” is the automatic operation of machine tools or other manufacturing machinery in industry. More and more robots are being integrated for demanding tasks such as loading and unloading the machine.
Often, the parts to be manufactured consist of different types of materials that are over-molded in the injection process. The tips need to be loaded into the injection machine first. For the robot to load attachments, they must be presented in a specific and repeatable position and orientation. For small production batches that require frequent product changes, conventional feeding systems such as vibratory bowls are very limited.
Engel developed a solution based on the six-axis Stäubli robot equipped with the Asycube 530 flexible feeder and Asyril’s SmartSight visual sensing system for flexible automatic loading and unloading of parts.
