Marine Greasing and Lubricating

Marine Greasing and Lubricating

When selecting the greasing oil, it is important to consider the factors like the surrounding in which the product will operate, NLGI values, operating temperature and operating weight etc.

By lubricating with the correct grease, we can save economise energy, lubricator cost, maintenance/repair/spare part costs.

Similarly, with the correct usage of oil we prevent any capillary cracks and parts from being eroded.

It is necessary to use dry lubrication products to prevent any damage in assembly element and assembly housing during the assembly of connection elements like especially bolts, nuts and thrusts. Also, this process increases the lifespan of the parts by eliminating possible entwisting, prevents any lathe process due to entwisting and eliminates extra process like helicoil which requires extra expenses.

That is why it is recommended to use dry lubrication products decreases the friction during the assembly.

The success of the positive results is directly proportional to the accreditations and the extra quality documents.

It is important to use products that can resist to salty water, moisture and high pressures for parts that function under water.

However, it may not be possible to obtain the same performance in open environment with greases used in parts that work in a closed environment like pumps, chains and threads.

Using greases with anti-corrosion properties for chains, threads and cranes that operate in open environments will decrease the energy usage and the noise.

A commonly made grease usage mistake in marine is the usage of greases that do not infuse inside the ropes of steel ropes. In these cases there will be no lubrication inside the rope hence these parts will weaken due to corrosion.
